Security is multi layer, encryption is only one, with correct procedures in place, you may not even need encryption. Both had security background checks, security passes, one asked colleagues for passwords to areas he wasn't an admin of (social engineering) and the other took blank CDs in a CD player with Lady Gaga written on them, the security team searching the him going in and out assumed the CDs were recorded music! It only takes one thing to fail and your crypto is useless. The NSA use all manner of crypto and procedures and still have had two massive data leaks (Snowden and Manning).
#TRUECRYPT ALTERNATIVE MAC PASSWORD#
Someone can just give the password out! Encryption is only as good as your weakest element, normally the fleshy bits that use your hardware.

What other measure are you using with the encrypted hardware, without handling procedures, signing things in and out, ensuring it is physically secure and have trust (maybe background checks) on the people handling it, without other measures encrypting things is point less.
#TRUECRYPT ALTERNATIVE MAC CRACK#
Given you would need to peeve some serious people of who could even attempt to crack Truecrypt, and if thats the case you should't be doing what you are! Thanks for pointing that the product is still alive and it is not abandoned. I see, and yes I can't tell that I am on top of every news coming about Truecrypt.

TrueCrypt is the product in that space and it is free. There is no cause for looking for an alternative at this time and there is a reason why no alternative is coming - because there is no need for one. There are new developers managing the project and any security concerns that are known are addressed. There is NO indication of any security issue and there are audits going on to ensure that it is secure - probably the most secure as it is the only product of its kind with audits behind it. That was the original developers abandoning the project and trying to get some media attention. If you are leaving TrueCrypt because of that you need to follow the news a bit better.

"WARNING: Using TrueCrypt is not secure as it may contain unfixed security issues" - message like this does not concerns you? That is the reason I am looking for something else. But that's already been established as being a farce. Unfortunately I think your stuck, as far as I'm aware there isn't any cross platform encryption solutions available outside of truecrypt.īut fortunately, TrueCrypt is a great choice and is free, so it's only so bad.
